本科毕业于南京大学（2011-2015），博士毕业于香港科技大学（2015-2019）。曾在苹果公司从事三维视觉相关的研究工作。

2022年国家级人才计划青年项目（海外）入选者。曾任苹果公司高级研究员，Altizure创始团队核心成员（被苹果收购）。2015年于南京大学获学士学位，2019年于香港科技大学获博士学位。主要研究方向为三维计算机视觉，包括三维重建、可微渲染及三维内容生成。代表工作包括MVSNet系列工作、BlendedMVS数据集及NeILF系列工作，文章总引用数逾两千，曾获2020年国际模式识别大会最佳学生论文奖。

Dr. Yao is a tenure-track associate professor at School of Intelligence Science and Technology, Nanjing University, where he founded and co-directs the 3D Vision Lab (NJU-3DV). Previously, he was a senior researcher at Apple, and a founding member of the startup company Altizure (acquired by Apple in 2020). He received his PhD degree from CSE, HKUST in 2019, supervised by Prof. Long Quan, and the bachelor degree from ECE, NJU in 2015, advised by Prof. Xun Cao. Yao’s research interests lie in intersections of computer vision and computer graphics, with a focus on 3D reconstruction, differentiable rendering, and 3D content creation. His representative works include the MVSNet series of works for multi-view reconstruction, the large-scale BlendedMVS dataset for geometry related learning tasks, and the NeILF series of works for physically-based differentiable rendering. He has won the ICPR 2020 Best Student Paper Award, and is a recipient of the Excellent Young Scholars Fund (Overseas) from NSFC.
